Working with moulds

The method employed to make majolica pottery is the casting of the pieces in plaster moulds.

This consist in the filling of the plaster moulds with liquid clay. The moulds absorb the water, forming a fine film of solid clay which clings to the walls. Next the excess liquid is removed and the pieces can be extracted.

Revision on the potter's wheel

Once the pieces have been extracted from the moulds they are then inspected on the potter's wheel, where marks left from the moulds are removed with a sponge. In this way the company continues to make use of the potter´s wheel.

After inspection, the pieces are left to dry before being placed in the kiln.
